Our History
Serving Your Future!
Established in 1979, Cook Drilling Company
began operating to serve the drilling needs of Southwestern
Michigan and Northern Indiana engineering firms. In 1986 we
expanded our mission to begin serving the growing environmental
field. We acquired specialized soil and water sampling
equipment necessary to serve our environmental clients, and
insured that our staff was, and remains, thoroughly trained to
effectively utilize that equipment.
Our focus then was to be properly equipped,
dependable, knowledgeable and price our services to fit our
clients’ budgets. That focus remains the same today and will be
the same tomorrow!
On a
personal note…

The
“original” Cook Drilling Company began with discovery of oil and
gas in southwest and west central Michigan in the 1930’s.
Spencer Cook came from Elkhurst, West Virginia to become
involved in this “boom” and after some success, called on his
brothers, Harley, Charley, Lee, Boone and my father Balser, to
help him in his new endeavor.
As the oil
and gas industry began to wane, Balser Cook purchased his first
hollow-stem auger rig in 1972 and formed Great Lakes Drilling
Company, which still exists today under the management of his
youngest son and my brother, Jon Cook.
The current Cook Drilling Company
was formed in 1979 and was mainly involved in geotechnical soil
borings for Shilts, Graves and Associates of South Bend,
Indiana. In the mid 1980’s, services evolved into the
environmental field with monitoring well installations and site
remediation.

It is
important that I honor the memory of my Uncles, Professor Leroy
D. Graves and especially my father, Balser Cook for everything
they taught and instilled in me. Without their love, influence
and guidance, Cook Drilling Company wouldn’t exist again today.
